What makes this a false amaretto cake? What would you use instead of orange juice now that there are no fresh oranges in the market? What about lemon juice?
sheila, 2012-08-02
Thanks for your comment. It has an amaretto taste. You can use OJ from concentrate if no fresh oranges are available (although, strangely, we bought some just last week). I wouldn't use a whole cup of lemon juice for a cake. It would be too sour.

What happened to the ingredient ameratto liquor
fayf1, 2012-08-02
That's just it, there is no amaretto liquor, that's why it's false amaretto cake.(But if you insist, you can substitute the amaretto liquor for the water in the icing.)

This is the original recipe for Harvey Walbanger Cake...Harvey Walbanger is a drink that uses Galiano (not kosher so we substitute Amaretto) vodka and orange juice...so it is translated into a cake by the same name: this cake is delicious and moist and the best thing is everything goes into the mixer at once.. 4 eggs 2 cups sugar 2 tsp baking powder 2 cups flour 1 pkg instant vanilla pudding 1/4 cup vodka 1/4 cup almaretto (can be purchased in any liquor store) 2/3 cup oil
