The original recipe came from one of the many advertising magazines that are stuffed in our mailbox. I did change it somewhat.
about 500 gram of shredded green cabbage
2 onions, chopped and sauteed till golden
2 egg whites
salt to taste
onionsoup or parve soup powder about 1 T
3/4 c. flour
paprika for topping

The original recipe had more oil and I found it too greasy. This recipe easily lends itself to tweaking!

About how many cups is 500 grams of cabbage?
I don't know about cups but 500 gr is about 1 lb and 2 oz. Hope this helps you. By the way, I had a kilobag at home which was too much and I divided it by sight eg definitely not exact. It came out fine.
do I need to sautee the cabbage and onions first or just mix everything raw and bake

You only sautee the onions. The cabbage goes in raw.
