This recipe for Rosh Hashana On Rosh Hashana it is customary to eat sweet foods made with honey and sugar and to avoid sharp foods such as horseradish, pickles and lemons.
6 eggs, separated
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
6 Tbs. honey
1/2 cup oil
1-1/2 Tbs. instant coffee dissolved in 3/4 cup hot water
2 Tbs. whiskey
1/2 lemon, juice and grated rind
1 orange, grated rind and juice
1-1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger or nutmeg
2-1/4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda

Helpful Hints
Variation: 2/3 cup light raisins or chopped citron or 100 gm. chopped nuts may be added to above recipe. Raisins should be sprinkled lightly with flour before adding to prevent them from falling to the bottom of the cake. If this recipe is made for Rosh Hashanna omit the chopped nuts.
