The chocolate cream filling in this rich pie is made with cocoa flavored with a bit of butter and vanilla. It's poured into a pre-baked pastry shell and chilled before serving.

Ingredients
1 9 inch pie crust, baked
2 egg yolks, beaten
1 cup white sugar
2 T cornstarch
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 t salt
3 cups milk
1 T butter
1 1/2 t vanilla extract

Helpful Hints
I wanted to make this parve, so I used soy milk and margarine.
I used the egg whites to make the meringue. To make the meringue: beat whites until stiff but not dry, adding 1/3 cup sugar gradually. Cover top of pie and bake for about 10 minutes, until brown on top.
I had a little problem because the pudding kind of got soggy with the meringue on top. Perhaps it would be better with whipped topping. At any rate, it tasted good.
Perhaps it would have been a lot easier to just use instant chocolate pudding!
